Muhammad Ali Day marks the 75th birthday of ‘The Greatest’
Today, January 17th 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky, the most extraordinary, brilliant and captivating boxer of all time was born…The Greatest!
Cassius Marcellus Clay who named himself Muhammad Ali, was heavyweight champion of the world three times. Ten years apart he KO’d the formidable Sonny Liston and the tremendous George Foreman. three incredible contests involving titanic spirit and determination against the mighty Joe Frazier, losing the first, but winning the second and the decider rubber match.
It was Muhammad Ali’s Courage of conviction which inspired millions. His stance against the US war in Viet Nam, which cost him the best three and a half years of his career. His support of so many charities and good causes, his love of all creeds and cultures.
Muhammad Ali died on June 3rd last year. But his legacy will live on forever. He himself said: “It’s a lack of faith that makes people afraid of meeting challenges. I believed in myself.”
“He who is not courageous will accomplish nothing in life. “
But perhaps his greatest gift of all was his hope: “I wish people would love everybody else like they love me. The world would be a better place.”
