Cotto, Kirkland bid to recover from Canelo defeats in Feb 25 clash
Five-Time World Champion Miguel Angel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) will fight James “Mandingo Warrior” Kirkland (32-2, 28 KOs) on February 25.
Roc Nation Sports and the Dallas Cowboys will formally address the media in Frisco, Texas on Monday with details surrounding the upcoming junior middleweight showdown at Ford Center at The Star.
Tickets priced at $304, $204, $154, $104, $79, $54 and $29 not including applicable service charges and taxes, go on sale Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. local time and will be available at all Ticketmaster locations, online at Ticketmaster.com, charge by phone at (800) 745-3000 and the AT&T Stadium box office.
Puerto Rican star Cotto returns for the first since losing his WBC middleweight title to Canelo Alvarez in 2015, whilst Kirkland also hasn’t fought since losing out to the same opponent earlier that year.
A catchweight of 153 pounds has been agreed by both parties for the fight, which could lead to a world super-welterweight title shot for the winner.
Cotto vs. Kirkland is a 12-round junior middleweight fight presented by Roc Nation Sports, Miguel Cotto Promotions and Ford Center at The Star, and sponsored by Corona Extra. The event will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.
