Gonzalo “El Patón” Basile (68–11) will face Robert “The Nordic Nightmare” Helenius (23–1) on December 17th at Hartwall Arena, Helsinki, Finland.
The experienced Basile has seen it all – he has scored more knockouts than Helenius has had professional fights – and the 42 years old Argentinian is determined to make Helenius pay for stepping into the ring with him.
“I dream to achieve the maximum in this sport, that’s why I continue training as if I were 20 years old,” says Basile.
“I am very motivated, strong and confident of winning by KO. I know what I must do if I want to win. I won’t be traveling to Finland for tourism but to win this fight before the limit.”
Basile lives in Buenos Aires with his wife and five children. He started boxing at the age of 14 and fought 40 amateur bouts, winning 30 of them by knockout.
His professional debut was on 2003, when he lost by KO to Mauro Adrian Ordiales, but after that he was undefeated in his next 26 fights. In 2006 Basile faced Alexander Dimitrenko for the WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title and in 2012 he fought Artur Szpilka for the vacant WBC Baltic Silver heavyweight title, but the Argentinian lost on both occasions.
This may be the last time Basile will be able to score a big win and reach for another title fight. And he is preparing accordingly.
“I already have 80 fights, and maybe the fights that I imagined as the most difficult were actually the easiest. I have a lot of confidence against Helenius,” says Basile.
“Regarding the weaknesses and qualities, I prefer not to speak before the fight. I will prove them in the ring. I do not give predictions before the fight, I am not that type of a boxer, but I will use my great stature and power to win. I will give boxing fans in Finland a great show. It’s going to be a great fight!”
Basile vs. Helenius is a part of the “All In” boxing event promoted by Dominus Boxing Group. The event will host three title fights, as Edis Tatli defends his EBU lightweight title against Manuel Lancia, Eva Wahlström defends her WBC super featherweight world title against Anahi Esther Sanchez and Niklas Räsänen challenges Mariano Hilario for the EU super middleweight title.
The event will be televised by Viaplay.
