Kovalev v Ward – PPV undercard results

The Colombian bullied the taller Texan for the duration of the ten rounds but was robbed on the scorecards as the judges somehow came back with tallies of 97-93, 93-97 and 95-95.

Giving Hooker the draw was a disgraceful result and meant the American clung onto his zero, whilst Perez may now miss out on an immediate world title fight at the higher weight.

In a breakout performance, Oleksandr Gvozdyk secured a career-best win over a stubborn Isaac Chilemba at light-heavyweight.

Gvozdyk became the first fighter to halt Chilemba, whose C.V includes two bouts with Tony Bellew and a world title challenge against Sergey Kovalev.

Chilemba started the better of the two, but Gvozdyk soon took over and was cruising to victory when the African was forced to retire with a broken hand after eight rounds.

A world title fight may be too soon for Gvozdyk in 2017, although the Ukrainian will certainly be in the mix for honours by this time next year.

Curtis Stevens began well against James De La Rosa but struggled in the mid-rounds before seeing out a unanimous victory on the scorecards.

The former world title challenger dropped De La Rosa in the first and seemed to be on his way to an early win only to allow his opponent back into the fight.

A late flurry put the contest beyond De La Rosa as Stevens took the bout 98-90 and 96-92 twice on the scorecards.
