Groves v Gutknecht: Results from London, UK

WBN 18/11/2016

Former world title challenger George Groves scored a definitive triumph over Eduard Gutknecht at Wembley Arena in his pursuit of a clash against Tyron Zeuge.

‘The Saint’ used his far superior boxing brain to bamboozle Gutknecht at times on his way to a 119-109 twice, 119-110 decision.

In the co-feature, Andrew Selby continued his swift movement towards a world title fight at flyweight with a seventh round stoppage win over Jake Bornea.

The Welshman, brother of IBF title holder Lee, has struggled to nail down domestic opponents but had little trouble moving to 7-0 on the night.

Welterweight contender Tamuka Mucha remained undefeated whilst at the same time moving closer to a British title shot by scoring a majority points win over Paddy Gallagher.

A hard-fought ten rounder produced final tallies of 97-94 twice and 95-95 to see Mucha take his record to a perfect 16-0.

In a shock result, Ronny Mittag scored a ten round split victory over Conrad Cummings. The unfancied middleweight was handed the fight 96-94 on two cards, whilst a third gave it to Cummings 96-94.

The reverse meant trainer Shane McGuigan, who also coaches David Haye and Carl Frampton, suffered a first career loss as head cornerman.

Earlier, Johnny Garton overcame Geiboord Omier via a six round decision 59-55 to push his record to 19-1-1, whilst promising heavyweight Nick Webb halted Ivica Perkovic inbetween the first and second rounds to ease to 9-0.
