Manny Zaber confident as Walsall title test draws near

The 21 year-old has recorded eight victories since turning pro last year but faces his toughest challenge to date when he takes on Tamworth’s Josh Baillee.

Zaber will step down in weight but up in rounds for the contest but is confident on taking home his first professional boxing belt.

“You just know within yourself that you are ready to make that step,” he told www.uko-boxing.com. “I know that I am good enough and I have enough about me to go for the title.

“I always wanted to make this step up and I feel as good as ever so I thought I may as well go for it now. I want to be challenged. I know in my career I will be in even tougher fights than this so the sooner I can start having difficult fights the better.

Walsall’s former British Champion, Martin Gethin, will be looking to bounce back from his defeat to Adam Little in Blackpool earlier this year in what is something of a crossroads fight for the local hero.

Gethin, who turned 33 on Wednesday, has already admitted that, should he lose to Melksham’s Liam Richards, he will call it quits on a 12-year professional career.

Swadlincote’s undefeated super middleweight, Zach Parker, also features. Like Zaber, Parker turned professional last year and has racked up seven wins to date. Having recently signed a management deal with Neil Marsh, he will be eager to impress his new manager when he takes on Yorkshire durable Adam Jones. Jones has never been stopped and Parker could well be looking to make a statement against the teak-tough Yorkshireman.

Wolverhampton cruiserweight, Josh Burke, takes on Ilkeston’s Russ Henshaw whilst West Bromwich welterweight, Tommy Loach, steps in with Nottingham debutant, Jerrall Spencer. Loach recorded a debut victory of his own back in July and will be hoping for a similar result this time around.

Chasetown lightweight, Luke Jones, completes the card as he steps in with experienced Irishman, Alex Bazza. Bazza is yet to win in 21 outings but, with Jones having fought just twice, will have the edge in terms of ring experience.

Tickets are priced at £30 (general admission) and £60 (VIP Ringside), and can be purchased by calling 0845 111 2900 or directly from any boxer on the bill.

The weigh-in and aftershow (over 18’s only) take place at Grosvenor Casino Walsall, Bentley Mill Way, Walsall WS2 0LE (just off junction 10 of the M6). Manny Zaber, Josh Baillee, Zach Parker and Adam Jones all weigh-in at the Grosvenor Casino Walsall at 1.00pm tomorrow (Friday). All over 18’s welcome.
