St Andrews Club director looks forward to Mike Towell tribute show

Chris Glover 16/11/2016

Eight days to go until our next show which will celebrate the life of Iron Mike Towell. The event will see the Scottish Bantamweight title contested between the Champion, Shotts’ Scott Allan and Glasgow’s Scott McCormack. The victor could be in line to fight for either the British or Commonwealth title in 2017.

The evening’s action will also feature highly rated Greenrigg Super Welterweight Kieran Smith. Smith impressed on his last outing at the SSE Hydro, delivering an 18 second knockout to his previously undefeated opponent.

Barrhead Super Bantamweight Gary Rae, brother of current professional Steven Rae, makes his professional debut under the guidance of Mark Breslin.

In exclusive news, undefeated heavyweight Ian Millarvie returns to the ring and has vowed to continue his undefeated streak which included five knockouts from his seven professional contests.

Club Director Iain Wilson gave his take on the evening’s action,

“Firstly the event will celebrate the life of Mike Towell. Mike was more than a boxer, he was my friend so the evening will unquestionably be a special one.”

“Allan vs McCormack will be a terrific scrap. Both boys are improving and are both desperate for success with possible big fights in line for the winner in the early part of next year.”

“Gary Rae is an excellent talent out of Barrhead. His brother Steven is progressing really well and we expect the same from Gary.”

“We’re delighted to have both Kieran Smith and Ian Millarvie on the bill.

“Kieran as everybody has seen is a very exciting fighter of the highest quality and I’m look forward to seeing him display his skills in a well matched contest.

“Ian Millarvie can punch and has bags of potential. Blink and you may miss this fight as the big man is looking to come back with a bang.”

Tickets for the bill are available directly from St Andrew’s Sporting Club by calling 01418105700 or by emailing office@standrewssportingclub.com
