Jacob Wylie to caption country in Brayd Smith Cup

Wylie, from the Warwick Boxing Club, is one of the country’s top amateur fighters and is the reigning Queensland and Australian Golden Gloves champion.

“It’s an honour to be selected as captain of the Country team for the Brayd Smith Cup, which is named in honour of a true champion,” Wylie said.

“Last year the trophy was won by City and on November 25 I’ll do everything I can to see it return to where it belongs – in the country.”

The City team Captain has also been announced with Jarred Barr selected to skipper the City boys.

Last year City won the inaugural Brayd Smith Cup, dominating the Country team to win the trophy.

“I’m very happy to be the captain of the city team for this year’s Brayd Smith Cup,” Barr said.

Last year four of my team mates helped City win the trophy an this year it will be no different.

“The trophy is staying with us.

“I cannot wait to put on a good show in front of the Toowoomba crowd on a huge pro card headlined by a Commonwealth title and an Australian title.”

The City vs Country Brayd Smith Cup is one of the most prestigious amateur events in Queensland. It will be one of the features on the TGW & Smithy Bring the Big Fights 15 Card on November 25 at Rumours International.

“The Brayd Smith Cup means a lot to us at Smithy’s TGW Promotions,” Event Promoter Brendon Smith said.

“Each year we want to make it bigger and better and we’ve definitely done that this year.

“Last year City dominated the event and won the trophy so now the Country boy want to square the ledger.

“We will have 7 of the best from the Country vs 7 of the best from the City.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to see the stars of the future on a big card in front of a big audience.

“These are Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games prospects – they’re the elite.

“We have two fine young boxers and fine young men in Jacob Wylie and Jared Barr as captains.

“It’s a well deserving honour for both of them.

“November 25 is shaping up as a huge night, in the pro’s we have two headline bouts between Kris George and Cameron Hammond for the Commonwealth title and Brent Rice vs Matt Casboult for the Australian title.

“Add to that the Brayd Smith Cup for the amateurs and we also have a huge corporate card.

“November 25 is shaping up as a star studded card.”
