Coldwell upbeat on Economides and Cooke following losses

Coldwell, who shared his guidance role with commentary duties for Sky, was confident his charges could each pull of victories but it wasn’t to be as Paul Economides missed out against Sean Davies whilst Jordan Cooke was well beaten by Andy Keates. Coldwell was upset with both decisions but believes his fighters have the character to bounce back.

“Paul really impressed me and showed huge guts by taking such a challenge on six days notice. With a full camp I reckon there’s a chance we’d see a different result and we’d certainly welcome the rematch as would a lot of people because it was such a good fight.

“Paul boxed in Liverpool last weekend and was literally stuffing his face when he got the call to fight so a large portion of the week has been him getting that few pounds off. He’s handled the whole occasion like a true professional though and we’re a little upset that he missed out by such a close margin. He’ll learn from that experience though and he’ll definitely be back fighting for titles at some point.”

On Cooke, Coldwell added, “I’ve got to be honest and say I expected so much more from Jordan in this fight as I know he’s capable of far more than what he showed here.

“He’s a talented kid and I’ve still got high hopes for him but he’s got to learn a valuable lesson here before he can push on. He didn’t perform nowhere near the level expected of him and the result was a fair one but he’s young and he’s got time on his side and this is the time to learn from his mistakes and push on. Like Economides, he can definitely come again.”
