The announcement of Kal Yafai’s WBA super-flyweight title challenge against Luis Concepcion has added more weight to the blockbuster Matchroom card at Manchester Arena on December 10.
Yafai, a talented former amateur Team GB star, aims for his first world championship on the night after racking up a 20-0 record in impressive style, scoring fourteen stoppages along the way.
The 27 year-old’s defining night comes on the undercard to Anthony Joshua’s second defence of the IBF heavyweight title, an opponent for which is still being arranged by promoter Eddie Hearn.
Ex-world title holder Scott Quigg has already been confirmed for a featherweight contest on the bill in an interview given by trainer Joe Gallagher to WBN this week, whilst new Hearn signing Luis Ortiz is pencilled in for a second outing in two months on the North West card.
Undefeated heavyweight Ortiz makes his UK debut just a few weeks after being scheduled to fight in Monaco against American Malik Scott. A rival to both Joshua and Ortiz is also set to appear as David Price is in line to feature on the pay-per-view event in a treble-bill of top division action.
More bouts are set to be added soon, including the finalization of the main event.
