Promoter Eddie Hearn has predicted ringside fireworks in Liverpool tonight as David Haye takes up Sky Sports analyst duties for rival Tony Bellew’s clash with BJ Flores.
Bellew defends the WBC cruiserweight title for the first time since his defining night at Goodison Park in May and has made it known he wants to face ex-world champion Haye up at the heavyweight limit in 2017.
Thus far, Haye has avoided any confrontation with Bellew – who has had some choice words for the Bermondsey man – but there will be no avoiding each other when the ‘Hayemaker’ and the ‘Bomber’ are in the same vicinity at the Echo Arena.
“I want him to fight Tony Bellew. It’s a huge fight for him and he’ll make millions, which I know he’s all about,” Hearn told IFL TV.
“He’ll be at the Echo Arena working for Sky and you can bet your life that if there’s a Tony Bellew win, it will all go off at ringside. Then it could be huge!”
Asked his thoughts on Haye’s recent tweets on the Anthony Joshua v Wladimir Klitschko fight, which Hearn is currently working on, the Matchroom boss was quite calm even though the Londoner announced the fight was done prematurely.
“It’s easy to announce it because it’s that close,” he said. “If you take a punt at it like he did with Charles Martin. He’s talking himself about going December 10th but I’m sure he won’t go December 10 when we announce our fight, especially if it’s December 10th.
“David Haye is a smart guy. He’s been around boxing for a long time. He’s not an idiot and he speaks very well. He’s trying to do similar things which is pick up other championship belts,” added Hearn.
