‘Iron’ Mike passed away last Friday following a fifth round defeat to Dale Evans in Glasgow leaving behind a girlfriend and young son, Rocco.

Hatton launched a fundraising page for the family after deciding to take things into his own hands in a bid to raise £20,000 for Mike’s loved ones. Within 24 hours, the donations reached the total Hatton had hoped to ‘smash’ in aid of Towell.

Now, Hatton is closing in on £40k, double what he originally hoped for – as the trainer prepares for his own fighter, Kiryl Relikh, to fight in Scotland on Friday.

‘The Hitman’ started things off himself by donating £5000 and put out a message to boxing’s big names will do similar to help those affected by the loss of Towell, who was just 25 years old.

Eddie Hearn also announced that from midnight on Wednesday, all proceeds from tickets will go to Towell’s family in a great gesture from Matchroom Boxing.

The boxing world has been rocked once by the death of a young man who lived for the sport and was taken in the most hurtful of circumstances.

Opponent Evans is also said to be devasted by what transpired after the pair traded blows at St. Andrews Sporting Club on Thursday night.
