Crolla v Linares: Canelo-GGG saga takes a backseat to 135lb clash

As all the talk surrounds a possible future meeting between ‘GGG’ and the ginger Mexican, Crolla and Linares step into the spotlight in a bid to claim the mantle of best lightweight in the world this weekend.

Golovkin’s win over Kell Brook, followed by Canelo’s stoppage of another Briton in Liam Smith over the past two weeks, may be long forgotten by British fans by Sunday morning if Crolla v Linares lives up to all expectations at Manchester Arena.

Both fighters are entertainers once they step between the ropes and are well-known for always giving their all, whilst having the not-so-small matter of vulnerability in their make-up can make for a back and forth blockbuster.

Home fighter Crolla has shone in his role as contender and champion over the past year, whilst hardened Venezuelan Linares has had to battle back to top status following some crushing setbacks in his career.

Fans in the North-West of England could be in for a real treat once the pair begin to trade blows as excitement seems to be guaranteed when Crolla or Linares are in action.

Putting the two together was a masterstroke by Golden Boy and Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, and those lucky enough to have tickets tonight should be sensing something special taking place.

All enthralling encounter to celebrate boxing is in the offing for ‘all the 135 pound marbles’ as put by Hearn during the build-up, leaving the Golovkin v Canelo saga firmly on the shelf.

…Well at the very least for one night.
