Exclusive: Tony Thompson open to Hughie Fury, David Price trilogy

American heavyweight Tony Thompson has informed WBN that he’d be willing to step in at short notice to face Hughie Fury on October 29 in Manchester.

Fury was due to battle Thompson’s undefeated compatriot Andy Ruiz Jr. on the date in question but is now without an opponent for the high-profile Tyson Fury v Wladimir Klitschko rematch undercard.

Thompson, who is no stranger to UK shores having beaten David Price twice before, and is more than willing to travel across the Atlantic again to hand the younger Fury his first career defeat.

“I’d be willing to go and fight him tomorrow. I would gladly whoop Hughie’s ass,” Thompson exclusively told World Boxing News.

“He doesn’t know what he’s doing. Maybe in 10 years he’ll know what he’s doing, but right know he don’t know sh*t and I’d be happy to give to the fight on October 29 at five weeks’ notice.”

PRICE

Asked about the resurgence of old foe Price and whether he’d fancy a third fight with the Merseysider, Thompson added: “We’ve been trying to make another Price fight but they don’t want it, and I don’t blame them.

“David is winning again and I think he looks better than before, but plain and simple he still can’t beat me.

“Right now, I’m more interested in seeing if Fury has the balls to take the fight on October 29 so the UK fans see me win again,” the former world title challenger said.

Thompson, 44, has lost three of his last four bouts, meshed in between two eye-catching victories over ex-Olympic champion Odlanier Solis, but it remains to be seen whether Fury and his team take the ‘Tiger’ up on his offer.
