Rey Vargas hopeful of landing Hozumi Hasegawa challenge this year
Although he never thought his next opponent would be Sinaloense Hugo Ruiz, who lost the Super Bantamweight title of the World Boxing Council last Friday in Osaka, Japan, the mandatory challenger, unbeaten Mexican fighter, Rey Vargas, says it is now his mission to take on the new world champion Hozumi Hasegawa.
Vargas, ranked number one in the division and official challenger, did not hide his surprise at the result qthat ‘Cuatito’ Ruiz lost his belt against Hasegawa by TKO in the ninth assault, but he said that he’s ready to fight against Hasegawa and dethrone him.
“It is a title that has been changing hands. Ceja had it in July, then ‘Cuatito’ Ruiz, now Hasegawa. I want the world championship, which is my dream.
“I’m more than ready to be the rival of Hasegawa, I hope we can face him very soon. Maybe at the end of this year.”
