The 37 year-old, training for a comeback against Jessie Vargas on November 5, insists his unanimous and apparently convincing decision defeat to Mayweather was wrong and once again confirmed he’s on board for negotiating a repeat.
“If the fans want it, and he wants it, then I’m open to it. I’m open to any fight,” Pacquiao said.
“I respect and honor the decision of the judges in the Mayweather fight. But if you ask me, I tell you frankly, in my heart, I believe I won that fight.”
Currently serving as a Filipino Senator, Pacquiao went on to state that Mayweather’s desire to make money out-weighed any attempts by the American to please those who fork out their hard earned cash for tickets and purchase pay-per-view.
“You know in his heart, he doesn’t have concern for the fans. His only concern is to make money.
“My concern is not only to make money but how I entertain the people, how I entertain the fans,” he added.
Should Pacquiao come through Vargas on Bonfire Night, a clash with Mayweather next May remains the target despite trainer Freddie Roach’s recent admission that he thought the eight-weight world champion lost the first bout.
Public demand for a return between the pair has never really surfaced, so maybe the best Pacquiao can hope for is to unify the welterweight division for the first time in his career and hope it’s enough to entice the ‘Money’ man again in 2017.
