The 27 year-old and ‘GGG’ are the only two fighters currently in possession of fully-fledged middleweight championships and could potentially be set for a UK battle in the early part of 2017.
Golovkin defeated Kell Brook in the fifth round on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London and Saunders wasted no time in urging Golovkin to accept his challenge.
Saunders will be officially announcing his next fight on Tuesday at a press conference arranged by Frank Warren and set to take place on the October 29 Tyson Fury v Wladimir Klitschko rematch undercard.
