Steven Spark, Jamie Hilt to get title shots on Oct 22

“I received confirmation from John Hogg that the ANBF has approved Steven Spark vs Mark Ramirez for the vacant light welterweight title which is great news,” Smith said.

“This pair was originally meant to meet on August 20 for the title but Stevie had to withdraw because of a hand injury.

“He’s recovered from that and will be ready to go by October 22 and Mark Ramirez is battle hardened, seasoned and a former State champion.

“It’s a good fight and by far the biggest test of Steven Spark’s career.

“Adding to the big news Jamie Hilt will finally get the shot he deserves.

“He’s been waiting in the background doing everything right and putting himself in the box seat for a shot.

“Now he’s finally got it, the winner of the Jamie Hilt vs Luke Travers bout will be crowned the new Queensland welterweight champion .

“Ben Kite is the current welterweight title holder but is booked for a regional title shot on October 15 so once he steps into the ring he vacates the Queensland title leaving Jamie Hilt and Luke Travers to fight for it on our show.

“It’s a little ironic considering Ben Kite was supposed to fight Jamie on one of our earlier shows only to withdraw two weeks prior – now Jamie gets to fight for the belt Ben has vacated.”

“Luke Travers vs Jamie Hilt will be a crowd pleaser.”

The upgrade to State title fights only adds to what is shaping up as a huge card.

“We now have an Australian title, two Queensland titles and an Australian title eliminator all on the one card,” Brendon Smith said.

“It’s all about bringing the big fights to Toowoomba and on October 22 – three new champions will be crowned and a new number one contender for the heavyweight title.

“Titles are what every fighter aspires to and now the likes of Brent Rice, Steven Spark, Jamie Hilt and Herman Ene-Purcell get the chance to reach their goals on October 22.

Tickets go on sale MONDAY SEPTEMBER 5 3.00PM at Smithy’s TGW GYM 46 378 298.

“It’s going to be another great night of fights, I advise everyone to buy tickets early and secure the best seat possible.”
