Dave Coldwell’s new season preparations for his thriving stable of fighters peaked this month when the Sheffield trainer swapped Yorkshire for the Spanish heat as Vista gym in Alicante became Coldwell’s place of work for a fortnight.
The popular gym, frequented by many British fight camps, hosted David Price and the McDonnell twins, Jamie and Gavin, as all three put in the hard work ahead of what the group is hoping is a successful and busy season. All three have their eyes firmly fixed on majestic targets and Coldwell insists that the getaway has been beneficial for his fighters.
“The facilities here have been top class and the hunger has been brilliant too despite the lavish surroundings,” buzzed Coldwell.
“This is a gym that I’ll definitely be recommending and visting again because everything was made easy and available for us from the first day we got here and the lads have really been looked after by John Severs so a massive Thank You goes to him. A lot of international camps come with distractions but the focus here has been world class from the boys and the training they’ve done is what’s required for the new season because I believe there could be plenty of high profile fights for my lads and they need to be switched on and ready.”
Coldwell added, “This coming season is so important for me and my fighters and I wanted to ensure that they’re in the best shape possible for it.
“Jamie and Tony Bellew are going to be in world title fights looking to build on the excellent form they’ve shown recently. Gavin is ready for a big test and the improvements I’ve seen from him tell me that there’s a lot more to come from him on the bigger stage. Pricey is desperate get back to the stage he once occupied and I think a good showing against a top opponent could open some doors for him. Ultimately, the lads are all pushing each other and it’s great to have that kind of teamwork in the gym.”
