Saunders off Canelo bill, Ortiz v Ustinov hangs in the balance

Recently, it was announced that Billy Joe Saunders decided to withdraw from his scheduled bout against Gabriel Rosado and days before that it was also revealed that the Luis Ortiz-Alexander Ustinov fight would not be on the bill.

Three fight bids are due to be bargained for on Monday as promoters exceeded the deadline for reaching an agreement. The first is the Cuban Luis Ortiz (25-0, 22KO) vs. Alexander Ustinov (33-1, 24KO) for the interim heavyweight title.

This fight, along with two other lesser profile bouts, will be auctioned on Monday at 11 am with an announcement expected later.

The Cuban Ortiz and Russian Ustinov were called to negotiate earlier this year to comply with the heavyweight tournament in search of the only champion. However, they should have reached an agreement by February 4 and that was not possible.

The difficulties that have arisen in GBP to make the Canelo-Smith undercard apparently are having an effect on the promotion of the event as so far only Diego De La Hoya, Joseph Diaz Jr. and Jason Quigley feature against opponents to be confirmed.
