In an exciting fight, former world champion Antonio Margarito defeated Ramon Alvarez by split decision in ten rounds in front of seven thousand people who filled the Baja California Center in Playas de Rosarito.
Margarito and Alvarez engaged in war from the first round that latest for the duration of the fight.
Despite suffering further eye damage, judges scores were 97-92 with two judges for Margarito and 95-94 with one judge for Alvarez.
In America, former undisputed pound for pound king Roy Jones Jr. secured a 64th career win with a unanimous decision triumph over Rodney Moore in Pensacola.
The 47 year-old took every round of the ten to record a second win since being badly knocked out by Enzo Maccarinelli in Russia last December.
Elsewhere in Finland, Edis Tatli remains the European lightweight champion following a twelve round points win over Cristian Morales.
It was a second successful defence for Tatli who pushes his C.V to 28-1 and moves closer to a world title shot later this year.
Also in action on the night, Blake Caparello stopped Rogerio Damasco in five rounds at the Melbourne Pavilion after ex-world title challenger Joel Brunker had defeated Issaka Issa.
The win was Caparello’s first since his loss to Andre Dirrell in April.
