Hobson backs Sheedy to shine against Robinson

Dennis Hobson is guaranteeing an entertaining battle between Sam Sheedy and Andrew Robinson on July 30 and insists his man, Sheffield’s ‘Speedy’ Sheedy, will come through victorious and then move onto significant title fights.

Sheedy and Redditch’s Robinson top the card at the Rotherham Magna Centre in a British and Commonwealth middleweight title eliminator. And with an undercard featuring Leeds’ 13-0 Reece Cartwright and Blackpool’s RP Davies, Hobson says fans can be sure of some exciting action.

“I’ve grown close to Sam and, with my nephew AJ [Hobson] involved as well, we’ve got a nice team behind him,” explained promoter Hobson. “I just see something in him, he has that star quality and not many fighters have that. You don’t have to be a Floyd Mayweather to have star quality. For example, I saw things in Clinton Woods that others didn’t see, and I get a similar feeling with Sam.

“He’s matured, has moved up to middleweight which is a very exciting weight category, and there are some major fights out there. If he comes through against this tough opponent, then he’s right in the mix. So it’s a very important fight for both men; it’s a 50-50 on paper and I know Andrew will make it very tough for Sam. May the best man win, but I just think Sam will have a bit too much on the night.”

Both Sheedy and Robinson have a single defeat on their 17 and 19-fight records. Sheedy suffered a controversial points loss to Nav Mansouri for the English light-middleweight belt in 2015, while Robinson was beaten by former world title challenger Frank Buglioni in 2014. With the stakes high and a Lonsdale Belt challenge on the horizon for the victor, Hobson insists fight fans are losing out by not having the opportunity to watch the contest live.

“I believe in Sam. It’s a shame this fight isn’t on TV though because it really is high-quality, and could already be a British or European fight because they’re both at that kind of level. They’ve both been willing to fight each other and have been reasonable with their purses which shows they’re proper fighters. I absolutely guarantee this will be a quality contest.”

Dennis Hobson Promotions presents Sam Sheedy versus Andrew Robinson contesting a British and Commonwealth middleweight title eliminator bout at the Rotherham Magna Centre on Saturday July 30.

Appearing on the undercard will be Leeds’ Reece Cartwright; Blackpool’s RP Davies; Sheffield’ Christian Kinsiona, Chris Dutton and Tommy Frank; Nottinghamshire’s Nathan Kirk, and Eckington’s Joss Paul.
