British super bantamweight contender James ‘Jazza’ Dickens went under the knife on Sunday to correct damage from his brief clash with Guillermo Rigondeaux.

The 25 year-old held his own with the Cuban legend for two rounds but was caught flush with a terrific left hand that saw the fight ended before the third began.

Rigondeaux’s punches sent winces through the crowd in Cardiff and meant Dickens was unable to continue through the risk of even more pain and further harm.

Dickens was taken to hospital in Wales on Saturday night and his team at MGM reported the Liverpudlian in high spirits after his surgery.
