Five potentially massive UK encounters loom on the horizon with the coveted Lonsdale Belt on the line, according to the latest British Boxing Board of Control circular.
At cruiserweight, current champion Ovill McKenzie is set for a defence of his title against dangerous Welsh puncher Craig Kennedy. McKenzie’s promoter Frank Warren has secured the winning bid for the eye-catching fight, with more details of the contest set to be announced in the near future.
Undefeated WBC number one contender Callum Smith, the super-middleweight ruler at the moment, has been pitched in to put his title on the line against Luke Blackledge, whilst middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. is expected to defend against Tommy Langford.
Eubank recently missed out on a seven-figure paycheck opposite Gennady Golovkin and has been linked to a spot on the undercard to the Kazakh’s battle with Kell Brook.
In the lower two weight divisions, two quality bouts have been stipulated as Kal Yafai v Jamie Conlan and Andrew Selby v Kevin Satchell have both been put forward by the board.
Yafai is on the verge of a world title shot, meaning handler Eddie Hearn may not see the Conlan fight as a priority, whilst Satchell has seemingly moved on from a previous reign as the UK titlist.
All purse bids are to be submitted on August 10 by the BBBofC.
