Antonio Margarito v Ramon Alvarez set for August 13

Zanfer promotions President Fernando Beltran Rendon confirmed the interesting fight late on Friday.

“We always seek to offer the best to our fans and the fights they want. After intense and complex negotiations, I am pleased to announce a combat between great champion and warrior Antonio Margarito and Ramon Alvarez, brother of Canelo,” said Beltran.

The junior middleweight bout will be ten rounds on a big stage at the Convention Center with capacity for 8,000 fans, Beltran confirmed.

Beltran also added that next week  the rest of the fighting card that will support Margarito-Alvarez will be announced, as well as ticket and pre-sale prices.

Margarito (39-8, 27 KOs) comes into the fight following victory in a thrilling fight against at the Arena Mexico City on March 5 after a retirement from boxing of almost 5 years.

“I felt a little rusty before the Paez fight after so long without a fight, but now we’re on pace again,” said Margarito. “I like the fight against Ramon Alvarez as the styles will prove an exciting fight for the fans, I’m happy because we were able to finalize negotiations.”

El Inocente Alvarez (23-4-2, 15 KOs), a favorite of fans, comes from an impressive streak of 10 wins including a triumph over Omar Chavez, and is said to be very motivated to face Margarito.

“A fight with Margarito is something I always wanted, so thanks to Fernando Beltran,” said Alvarez. “It is a big opportunity for my career and I have no doubt that I’ll win regardless. I will go out and give everything – as always.”
