Josh Gormley gets the call to face Andy Ruiz Jr. on July 16

Heavyweight Joshua “Dempsey” Gormley 22-4-0 (21 KO’s) will face the undefeated Mexican heavyweight Andy Ruiz Jr. 27-0-0 (18 KO’s).

Gormley, who trains under the Dino Spencer and Luis “Chiro” Perez direction at the 5th St. Gym in Miami, Fla. told Ringsidefightingnews: “This Friday, I expect to sign the contract for that fight.”

According to Gormley, the match against Andy Ruiz Jr. is scheduled for Saturday July 16th at the Masonic Temple in Detroit, Michigan in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds. Ruiz Jr. v Gormley will be the main event of the evening on a card organized and presented by Dmitry Salita from ‘Salita Promotions’.

Ruiz Jr., defeated Ray Austin in the 4th rounds in his last fight on May 14 this year in California, defending his NABF title he won in 2013 against Tom Hamer at the Cotai Arena in China.

Gormley added: “I am anxious and I hope to sign the contract on Friday so I can then focus on the final details of my preparation for this fight.”

Asked about his chances of beating Andy Ruiz Jr, Gormley said: “I’m completely sure I can beat Ruiz Jr. I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for a long time, and I’ll show everyone that I can be at a the top level within the heavyweight division.”
