WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas has lifted the lid on problems regarding IBF title holder Kell Brook signing his part of the deal for their unification fight.
Initially slated for September 3 in Sheffield, the massive title fight looks set to be pushed back, despite the fact that the American two-weight world champion Vargas handing in his contract weeks ago.
Unforeseen delays on Brook’s side have left Vargas frustrated as the Las Vegan awaits the official announcement for a two-belt battle to determine who takes a strangle hold on one of the most lucrative divisions in the sport.
“I signed my part of the deal a month ago but things have changed and I want to update and apologize to my fans,” said Vargas.
“The date for my next fight has been changed do to the fact that Brook is having trouble signing his end of the deal. Thank you for your support and I will keep you informed.”
Vargas will travel to the UK for the first time in his career once the ink is dry on Brook’s end of the bargain, with the winner in line to become top dog at 147 and claim a healthy boost in the pound for pound rankings.
