A massive welterweight unification between Kell Brook and Jessie Vargas is on the verge of an official announcement for September 3 at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena.
IBF title holder Brook is set to be given home advantage as the Yorkshireman bids to add the WBO version possessed by Vargas to his list of accolades. Brook v Vargas has been in talks for some time.
WBN learned last week from Cameron Dunkin that the American had signed his portion of the deal.
Kell Brook vs Jessie Vargas
Vargas has now confirmed the fight via his social media accounts.
“My next fight is confirmed for September 3 in the UK versus Kell Brook,” revealed Vargas.
“We are preparing for a KO victory and on becoming the WBO and IBF world champion. I appreciate your support,” he added.
The British Boxing Board of Control had put the date out in the open days earlier. They revealed that the British lightweight title bout between Scott Cardle and Kevin Hooper would take place on the date and venue.
An official announcement is expected from Matchroom Boxing this week. Initial additions to Cardle vs Hooper on the undercard are also due.
Brook v Vargas is expected to be screened on Sky Sports Box Office.
