A massive welterweight unification between Kell Brook and Jessie Vargas is on the verge of an official announcement for September 3 at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena.
IBF title holder Brook is set to be given home advantage as the Yorkshireman bids to add the WBO version possessed by Vargas to his list of accolades. Brook v Vargas has been in talks for some time and WBN learned last week from Cameron Dunkin that the American had signed his portion of the deal.
Vargas has now gone a step further by confirming the fight via his social media accounts.
“My next fight is confirmed for September 3rd in the UK versus Kell Brook,” revealed Vargas.
“We are preparing for a KO victory and on becoming the WBO and IBF world champion. Thank you for your support,” he added.
Days earlier, the British Boxing Board of Control had basically put the date out in the open when revealing that the British lightweight title bout between Scott Cardle and Kevin Hooper would take place on the date and venue in question.
An official announcement is expected from Matchroom Boxing this week, along with initial additions to Cardle v Hooper on the undercard.
Brook v Vargas is expected to be screened on Sky Sports Box Office.
