British heavyweights Dereck Chisora and Dillian Whyte have planted the seeds of a new domestic rivalry as the pair clashed after a press conference on Tuesday.
Chisora and Whyte were present as the latter had just announced his signing with Matchroom Boxing and the former was accompanying promoters Sauerland to the announcement for George Groves v Martin Murray.
The pair began goading each other regarding past achievements and sparring sessions as Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn looked on with a clear glint in his eye.
At one point, Chisora wanted to start the fight there and then, but was told by Kalle Sauerland not to do it for free in a hotel function room.
Whyte is set to appear on the undercard of former foe Anthony Joshua’s world title defence against American challenger Dominic Breazeale, whilst there could still be time for ‘Del Boy’ to join the party.
On this evidence, Chisora and Whyte could eventually have their names put forward by the British Boxing Board of Control for the vacant British title and collide in a late summer battle in London.
A recent loss to Kubrat Pulev for the European title means Chisora has to look for a return to UK level and matching him with Whyte seems a no-brainer moving forward.
