Haye Day 20/05/2016

David Haye and Arnold ‘The Cobra’ Gjergjaj both hit the scales at the official weigh-in staged at the Muhammad Ali Exhibition at The O2 ahead of their big showdown on Saturday night.

British star Haye, a former two-weight world champion and on a mission to become a two-time world heavyweight champion, came in at bang on 16st and looked in superb physical shape for his second comeback fight.

Weighing in 3lbs lighter than his return in January against Mark De Mori, when he smashed the Australian in just one round, Haye again looks like he’ll have a perfect blend of speed and power.

His dangerous and undefeated rival Gjergjaj, tipped the scales at 16st 13lbs and will have the height, reach and now the weight advantage over Haye in the crucial showdown.

The Londoner said afterwards, “I feel fantastic and can’t wait for tomorrow night and make that entrance into a packed 16,000 crowd at The O2 Arena and face The Cobra. He looked big and strong at the weigh-in today and he’s here for a fight and I’ve certainly not underestimated him. He’s got a fantastic record, undefeated in 29 fight and 21 knockouts, he’s young and hungry and knows he can get a world title fight if he beats me. There’s no way I’m going to let that happen, tomorrow night he’ll be my 26th knockout victim and then it’s onwards towards the world title.”

Joe Mullender and Lee Markham, who collide in the highly anticipated Battle of Essex, both weighed in under for their clash for the Vacant Middleweight Championship of England in the chief supporting bout.

Brentwood’s Mullenders came in at 11st 4lbs 12oz and Gray’s rival Markham slightly heavier at 11st 5lbs 6oz for their eagerly awaited fight .

Haye’s rival Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs, the special attraction on the card, weighed in at 17st 12lbs for his ten round contest against Argentianian Emilio Ezequiel Karate.

A couple of the undercard fights also weighed in with Joe Fournier (12st 13lbs) and Bela Juhasz (12st 11lbs) for their four-round super-middleweight contest, plus Floyd Moore (10st 3lbs 10oz) and Jordan Vasilev (10st 5lbs 2oz) for their six-round lightweight contest.
