Belper’s Ryan Fields goes for further title glory this weekend as he opposes Johnny Garton at London’s York hall with the vacant English welterweight belt up for grabs.
Fields’ story is fast becoming a compelling one following a tough start to his professional career when setbacks against solid opposition could easily have dented his confidence and ripped all ambition from him. Instead, the entertaining Fields has built up a solid number of wins which have seen him take regional honours and his manager, Dave Coldwell fully believes that his charge can add to his collection this weekend.
“Ryan is living proof that being matched tough to begin with can still provide plenty of success throughout your career. He’s treated each setback like a lesson learnt and that why he’s on the run that he is now because it’s made him such a better fighter and it’s something other fighters can learn from him. This fight coming up is a huge opportunity to really get himself amongst the rankings domestically and having the English belt will also make sure that the tests keep coming as there’ll be plenty of fighters wanting to take it from him. “
Coldwell added, “This Saturday is a good test for him against yet another opponent who’ll be desperate to win but Ryan has shown time and time before that he loves a challenge and I’m confident he’ll pass this test with flying colours. There’s plenty of fights out there for him to step into if he can get the job done this week but for now the focus is just getting his hands on the English title.”
