After Muheeb Fazeldin’s Commonwealth title shot against Emmanuel Quartey fell through earlier this week, the Dennis Hobson Promotions’ show at Sheffield’s City Hall this Saturday (April 30) has suffered another blow with the late-notice withdrawal of Alfredo Meli from the headline fight.
Belfast’s Meli was scheduled to face local man Sam Sheedy in a Commonwealth middleweight eliminator but medical issues now mean that Sheedy finds himself without an opponent and will instead box an exhibition bout.
“This show has been one problem after another but I thought the worst was over after Muheeb’s fight was cancelled,” explained promoter Hobson. “On weigh-in day, we’ve been now been informed that Meli has an issue with one of his scans and they are pulling him out.
“I’m obviously extremely disappointed with Meli’s team, and it’s such short notice that we’re unable to get Sam a replacement opponent. I’m disappointed for Sam who is in fantastic condition, and for the fans who were looking forward to the contest.
“We’ve no other option but to ask Sam to box an exhibition contest to show that he’s been in a dedicated training camp for the fight. We still have some good local kids on the show, including a derby fight between Tom Bell and Razaq Najib, so we’ll still go ahead and give the fans some action to watch.”
Dennis Hobson Promotions present an evening of boxing at Sheffield’s City Hall on April 30. Appearing will be Razaq Najib (Sheffield) versus Tom Bell (Doncaster); and Sheffield fighters Kyle Yousaf; Ramzy Nassa and debutant Mujahid Najib.
