On May 7, WBC middleweight world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez puts his future on the line against Amir Khan.

This fight represents a tremendous challenge for Alvarez, as Khan has the perfect style to have success against him. Alvarez has extreme difficulties with fighters that dominate the ring, and Khan is a very fast crafty fighter.

Julio Cesar Chavez was the champion of the world, undefeated in 89 fights, and was honored to open the MGM Arena back in 1994. The fight was a defense of his WBC super lightweight world title, and it was billed as an easy defense by the experts. It was then that Chavez lost for the first time against Frankie Randall. On May 7 Canelo vs. Khan will open the T-Mobile Arena, and could very well be history repeating itself.

“Amir Khan deserves the respect from the boxing world. He is a hard working, exemplary role model who represents the best of boxing inside and outside the ring. It is irresponsible for anyone to see beyond Khan. This is a great fight between two sensational fighters, and the winner will have the recognition of being one of the best in the world,” added WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman.

“Canelo Alvarez must bring his best fighting ability on May 7, as he is putting his career and his future in the line against a very talented, hungry and fit fighter like Amir Khan.”
