MGM´s Martin Murray has secured the fight he was aiming towards; he will be fighting Geroge Groves in a domestic clash like none other on 25th June at the O2, London, live on Sky Sports Box Office in chief support to Anthony Joshua’s IBF world heavyweight title defence.
The fight will be an eliminator for the WBA super-middleweight title. The four-time world title challenger has still to get a win on the 7th May on the Anthony Crolla bill in Manchester but he is looking at it as the perfect preparation for 25th June. “First things first,” he
“First things first,” he said. “I´m fighting on 7th May and once I have got that out of the way, all of my focus will be on George Groves.”
“I’m really excited about this fight and can’t wait for it. I’ve always wanted to be involved in big domestic fights and this one has all the makings of a classic!”
“I´ve always rated Groves as a fighter and I know he’s going to be fit and confident, I´m so expecting him at his best. He’s got a world class jab and carries good power so it´s going to be a tough fight, but I’m ready to go to war and do whatever it takes to win.”
Murray has been giving his all to get ready for this fight, he has wanted it for a while now and knew it could be a possibility at any time. Murray trains with Oliver Harrison a world class coach and they make a dynamic team. “Training’s been going really well.” He said “I’ve been doing a lot of strength work and working on power shots with Oliver so feeling really strong. Everything we’ve been working on has been working in sparring, so I´m in a great place physically and mentally.”
Murray is confident that he is doing the best he can to beat Groves and isn´t going to change his formula, he said “With everything going so well I don’t think we’ll change it much. Will most probably do some altitude work with the facilities that are available and maybe stay in a hotel a few weeks prior to the fight to help with preparation. Will also be bringing in people who are similar to Groves’ style for sparring.”
MGM will be supporting Murray in any way they can, it promises to be a great night not just for Murray.
It´s going to be a big night of boxing, promoter Eddie Hearn said: “We are looking to put on one of our strongest cards yet at The O2, topped by the huge domestic clash between George Groves and Martin Murray which is set to be a wonderful clash. Watch this space for some more big fights added soon.”
