Watch: Chris Eubank Jr asks to visit former opponent Nick Blackwell

New British middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr has expressed his desire to visit Nick Blackwell in hospital after the great news broke on Monday that the fighter is now awake and talking.

Eubank Jr won their contest in ten rounds on March 26, after which Blackwell was placed in an induced coma due to a bleed on the brain. Blackwell collapsed in the ring following the final verdict on the bout and was treated by ringside doctors before being rushed to the ICU.

A press released from Hennessy Sports released on Monday stated the following: “Finally, at the weekend, Nick woke from this induced coma, acknowledged the voices of loved ones and, by Sunday, was starting to talk. It was the outcome everyone had been hoping and praying for; Nick had won his toughest fight yet.

“On behalf of Nick, his family, and very close friends, we’d like to thank everyone for their continued support and well-wishes. It has been overwhelming at times and has certainly not gone unnoticed.”

On his social media channels, Eubank said the following in response: “Very happy to hear Nick Blackwell has awoken from his coma. Nick, I’d like to come see you if possible as I’ve got something for you bro.”
