Exclusive: Makabu manager predicts Goodison Park nightmare for Bellew

Bellew has long been hoping to fight for a world title at Goodison Park and promoter Eddie Hearn has already proposed the stadium to Saadi and Makabu for the summer. With a date of June 4 already in the works, Saadi is hopeful everything will be confirmed soon as Makabu gears up to wreck Bellew’s dream of winning a world title on Everton Football Club’s hallowed turf.

“We need to Junior to become the WBC champion and right now everything is good with Matchroom,” Saadi exclusively told World Boxing News when asked about contracts for the bout.

Quizzed further on whether Goodison Park has been confirmed as the stage for the encounter, he added: “No, but it’s not a problem for Makabu’s team to fight at this venue.

“If it is at Bellew’s home we have no problem. Let him have his chance, but you will see on June 4 that it will not be a happy ending for him.

“We have taken our time to reach this point and now we are working towards our goal of winning this WBC world title,” he said.

Makabu is recognised as one of the most dangerous fighters at the 200 pound limit having recovered from being stopped in 29 seconds of his debut to boast a 90% KO ratio through 19 wins.

Add to that the fact that Makabu is also a southpaw and Bellew seems to have his hands well and truly full as ‘The Bomber’ bids to claim a world title at the third time of asking.
