Billy Joe Saunders releases encouraging information on Nick Blackwell’s recovery

Saunders told social media followers that he has contacted family members of the 25 year-old former Lonsdale Belt holder and has been told encouraging information regarding Blackwell’s chances of recovery.

“(I) Spoke to Nick’s Dad (and it’s) looking good. He will be back to us in no time. Keep him in (your) thoughts and prayers. God bless him and you all,” stated Saunders.

Blackwell has been in an induced coma since the early hours of Sunday morning following a ten-round battle with Chris Eubank Jr at the SSE Arena in Wembley. ‘Bang Bang’ put up a brave fight when clearly out-classed by Eubank and was pulled out by doctors towards the end of the contest with a grotesquely swollen eye and broken nose.

The boxing community have since rallied round the Trowbridge man and this latest news with be a sigh of relief as everyone has kept their fingers crossed that Blackwell will suffer no lasting damage from a bleed on his brain.

Opponent Eubank Jr. and his father have been among the thousands in the sport and beyond who have since paid public tributes to Blackwell’s immense bravery.
