MGM Manchester’s Tshifhiwa Munyai (27-4-1, 15KOs) has secured a shot at the Commonwealth Featherweight title on May 7th against current Champion Isaac Lowe (12-0-1, 5KOs).
The purse bids for the contest have been won by Matchroom Sport and the fight is set for the undercard of Anthony Crolla’s WBA World Lightweight title defense against the big punching Ismael Barroso at the Manchester Arena.
Lowe impressed last time out, producing an excellent display to stop Northern Ireland’s highly rated Marco McCullough in eight rounds to claim the vacant Commonwealth strap that had previously been held by Josh Warrington.
Munyai had won a final eliminator for the Commonwealth title last November when he took out World rated Oscar Chauke in 10 rounds last September. Both fighters are coming off the back of excellent displays which sets this fight up to be an technical war.
Promoter Johnney Roye has given his take on his man Munyai’s showdown for the Commonwealth title against the impressive Lowe,
“I feel that Lowe is a great young boxer with a massive heart. He showed last time out that he is a worthy champion. This will be an explosive fight. Munyai is always ready for what challenge is put in front of him and he is desperate to show the British fight fans what he can do on May 7th.”
Isaac Lowe’s defense of the Commonwealth Featherweight title against Tshifhiwa Munyai on May 7th features on a card topped by Anthony Crolla defending his WBA World Lightweight title against the hard hitting Ismael Barroso with Martin Murray also featuring on the bill.
