Antonio Margarito ends six-year win-less wait in Mexico City

At the end of the ten rounds, the cards added read: Humberto Olivares gave 95-94, 97-93 from Hector Ortiz and Rafael Hernandez had it 96-93, all in favor of the “Tijuana Tornado”.

A surprise came in the sixth when Paez stunned Margarito with a powerful right to the jaw and sent him to the mat back to the shock of the fans. Margarito rose before the count from referee Laurentino Ramirez to continue the fight. Both ended up exhausted at the end of that round.

Margarito regained his composure to see out the win and possibly move on to bigger and better things in the future.

With this result, Margarito moves to 39-8, with 27 knockouts, while “Maromerito” Paez accumulates 39-8-2, 23 through his career.

In the co-feature, Giovanni Delgado won by split decision over Caesar  Juarez, fighting over ten rounds at super bantamweight.

At the end of the 10 rounds, the judges ‘ scorecards read: Humberto Olivares scored 96-93 and 96-95 came from Hector Hernandez to declare Delgado the winner. Rafael Ortiz scored 95-94 for Juarez.
