TJ Doheny signs with Murphy’s Boxing, returns March 19

Doheny a slick boxing southpaw from Ireland, with fast hands and knockout power is a perfect 14 wins in 14 fights, with 10 of those coming by way of KO. One of the busier bantamweights in the sport, Doheny has fought 7 times in the last 16 months and looks to continue that trend when he makes his U.S.A, as well as Murphy’s Boxing debut, fighting on the massive March 19th Saint Patrick’s Clash fight card. Doheny will be defending his PABA title against an opponent to be named shortly, Doheny, a 5 time Irish amateur champion, who was born in Ireland and now resides in Australia, looks to make a splash in front of the large Irish contingent, on the always raucous St Patrick’s day weekend in Boston.

Boasting an undefeated professional record, Doheny also has an impressive amateur pedigree, having over 150 fights, winning 5 Irish Championships and beating IBF World Super Bantamweight Champion Carl Frampton. With this amateur and professional experience, Doheny and his manager believed that fighting in the U.S. and signing with Murphy’s Boxing would be the last 2 pieces that will lead to a World Championship. “I truly believe America is the place for me if I want to become a world champion. My goal for 2016 was to get set up stateside and get into world title contention. I discussed this with my manager Mike Altamura and he agreed and got to work. He has been negotiating with different promoters but in the end we are very happy to have signed a deal with Murphy’s Boxing. Starting with the St.Patrick’s show in Boston on March 19th, I plan to have most of my fights in the United States and get into a position to challenge for and win a world title.” said Doheny. “For me to get those big fights and big names in the opposite corner I needed the backing of a top team and I have that now. I’m more than ready to mix it up with any super bantamweight in the world and I have no doubt that Murphy’s Boxing are the people to get me over the line. I see the opportunities they are giving their fighters and how well they are working with Stephen Ormond and Spike O’Sullivan, so I’m really excited and can’t wait to be part of that.” continued Doheny. “I would also like to thank my Australian coach and friend Tony Del Vecchio who has played a huge part throughout in my pro career to get me into this position.” concluded Doheny.

“I’m excited at the prospect of working with Ken and the team at Murphy’s Boxing, and I believe TJ fits perfectly into the fold. He’s a talented kid with fast hands and a sharp boxing brain, and this is the natural progression towards building to a world title challenge.” said Doheny’s manager Mike Altamura.

“All of us at Murphy’s Boxing are excited to have signed a talent like TJ Doheny. This is a fighter who is ready to take the next step and become a world champion.” said Ken Casey of Murphy’s Boxing. “We guarantee our fans on March 19th will like what they see in TJ. I believe the Boston crowd will be seeing a future world champion make his United States debut. This is going to be an exciting 2016 for TJ, we see some interesting fights in the Super Bantamweight division and we see TJ putting his stamp on that division.” concluded Casey.
