Rocky Martinez training hard for Miguel Berchelt defense

Peter Rivera, Vice-President of PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP), Martinez’s (29-2-3, 17 KOs) promoter, said today that he expects to receive from Promociones Zanfer the confirmation of the travel to go to Mexico.

“We hope to go to Merida between Sunday, March 6th or Monday 7th to acclimate Rocky there. Although we know that Merida is at sea level, we want Rocky sit well with the weather too,” said Rivera. “We also hope they (Promociones Zanfer) send us the date of Rocky’s flight because there is a group of Puerto Rican fans who will make the trip to Mexico to see the fight.”

Martinez, a three-time WBO king at 130 pounds, will defend his title for the second time against Berchelt (28-1, 25 KOs), the #1 ranked, after Promociones Zanfer won a WBO purse bid on January to present the card.

“Rocky is training hard, as always, to get in the best condition for this fight and bring another victory to Puerto Rico,” added Rivera.

In 2015, Martinez faced Orlando “Siri” Salido twice, beating him in the first fight to win the title and ending in a draw in the second bout. Berchelt fought four times last year and won all by knockout.
