MGM Promoter Sam Kynoch revealed over the weekend that he has high hopes for his MGM Scotland events in 2016 and for his stable of Scottish boxers.
We caught up with Sam down at the MGM Scotland Gym and asked what Scottish fight fans had to look forward to in the coming months.
Sam commented: “We have a very busy schedule in place for the first half of 2016, which will see events take place in both Edinburgh and Glasgow. We have both public and dinner shows scheduled, and all of our boxers have defined plans set out for them”.
One of the biggest fights to be made by MGM Scotland to date is the Stephen Simmons v Paul Drago clash at Cruiserweight. Simmons comes in with a 14-1 record, while Drago is undefeated in 9 with an 8-0-1 record.
The fight takes place in Edinburgh on 12th March. We asked Sam about this match-up and he commented that “Simmons v Drago has the makings of a domestic classic. Both boxers firmly believe that they will have their hands raised on the night.
They both have excellent coaches who will ensure that they are in prime condition and ready to fight hard for 10 rounds – Simmons working with Gary Jacobs, and Drago with Alex Matvienko. Both boxers must be given full credit for taking this fight as they could simply have kept treading water awaiting a major title shot, but instead they are meeting each other and looking to force a shot a title”.
Before the Edinburgh bill MGM Scotland are promoting a 6-fight card at Glasgow’s Bellahouston Sports Centre on Saturday 27th February. Tickets for both the February and March events are available via Ticketmaster.
