Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn spoke in depth to Kugan Cassius this week following on from the shock announcement of Canelo Alvarez v Amir Khan.
Briton Khan has agreed a deal to fight Canelo at 155 pounds on May 7 in Las Vegas for the WBC middleweight title, meaning a massive UK clash with Kell Brook is off the table.
Hearn gave his immediate reaction to WBN on Tuesday night, but then sat down with IFL TV to talk further, even revealing that Brook asked him to seal a similar deal with Canelo rival Gennady Golovkin.
“Kell’s reaction last night was actually ‘get me Golovkin at 155-pounds.’ I started laughing and he said, ‘I’m serious. I actually spoke to Tom Loeffler (GGG Promoter) about it last night,” said Hearn, before adding that Brook will step up after his mandatory fight with Kevin Bizier.
“I believe Kell is the best welterweight in the world, but he has to build the resume to prove it. He will jump into a super-fight in the summer. He has to and he will.”
