Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn is intent on bringing a huge name opponent over to the UK for a summer blockbuster clash for star fighter Kell Brook.
Brook, 29, missed out on facing Amir Khan in a Wembley Stadium pay-per-view showdown which would have netted both fighters millions following his rivals decision to challenge Canelo Alvarez for the WBC middleweight belt on May 7.
‘The Special One’ has been left without a top target for what Hearn hopes will be a home super-fight, although the fighters who could fill the void left by Khan have been revealed – even if that means Brook loses home advantage.
“Golovkin, Cotto, Thurman, Garcia,” Hearn told Kugan Cassius of IFL TV on Wednesday. “We might have to travel, but I want to make the big fights here because I’m a British promoter and my partner is Sky.”
Middleweight king Golovkin would have to be persuaded to drop down five pounds in order to take on Brook, whilst any Cotto encounter may require a move up to super welterweight.
Facing Thurman or Garcia would obviously have the biggest appeal as both are unifications, although accepting bouts with either of those two – or Cotto for that matter, certainly means a trip Stateside for Brook.
