Exclusive: Crolla vs Barroso UK clash on track for April or May

Interim WBA lightweight champion Ismael Barroso’s promoter Greg Cohen has informed WBN that talks regarding a fight with Anthony Crolla are going well.

Hard-hitting Venezuelan Barroso is stipulated to challenge Crolla for the full title. The decision comes on the back of his stoppage victory over Kevin Mitchell last December.

Cohen is convinced a deal can be struck imminently.

“My discussions with Eddie Hearn are ongoing. The good news is that both sides want to make a deal. Both fighters are very confident that they will be victorious,” Cohen exclusively told World Boxing News.

Crolla vs Barroso date

“Mid-April and early May dates have been discussed. I hope we will reach a firm agreement over the next week.

“When dealing with Eddie and Matchroom, they are very straight honorable people who tell it like it is. This makes it easier to make a deal, but the overall experience is pleasant and professional.”

On the fight itself, Cohen added: “I am really looking forward to this fight. The styles of Crolla and Barroso are so contrasting. I believe it will make for an exciting and entertaining fight.

Regarding the venue for the bout, Cohen said this was yet to be fully decided but that it would take place on British soil.

Crolla won the title with an excellent stoppage victory over Darleys Perez in November at Manchester Arena.

The smart money being laid out is on Crolla vs Barroso ending up at the same venue to give the champion a home advantage.
