Jack Bellingham returns to action Jan 30 in Plymouth

UKO Boxing 20/01/2016

Super welterweight prospect Jack Bellingham is ready to help his local rivals put Plymouth firmly on the boxing map.

The 25-year-old rookie turned professional last year after becoming frustrated at a lack of opportunities in the amateur game.

Bellingham believes a short-sighted attitude in the sport means the area is under-estimated and, ahead of his second pro fight on Western Country Boxing’s ‘Brawl At The Guildhall’ show at the end of this month, is ready to put that right.

“It’s always been the same in Plymouth for amateur boxing,” he told www.uko-boxing.com. “As an amateur I was always waiting to box for England and get Team GB call-ups but because I’m down past Bristol they don’t really tend to look.

“I don’t know why. I’ve been told it’s been like that for years. That’s partly why I turned pro.”

Bellingham insists there is a huge appetite for boxing in that part of the world and believes West Country Boxing’s show on 30th January will be the start of something big.

He joins fellow Plymouth natives Chris Adaway, Courtney Richards, Cristian Hoskins-Gomez, Ben Zacharkiw, Louis Aitken and Ross Roberts on the show and added:

“With us on the show, the promoter hasn’t even got to worry about tickets. It’s going to be a complete sell-out.

“I’ve sold all mine already – I want more for my supporters, I’ve already sold 160, but I want to get hold of more!”

Plymouth’s Chris Adaway tops the bill against Londoner Danny Parsons for the British Challenge Super Lightweight Title whilst fellow Plymouth pugilist, Courtney Richards, takes on Wolverhampton’s Joshua Burke in a six round cruiserweight contest.

Exciting Plymouth-based super middleweight, Cristian Hoskin-Gomes, takes on Stoke’s Mark Till whilst Plymouth resident Darren ‘The Terminator’ Townley will be looking to make it a hat-trick of professional victories when the super lightweight takes on Luton’s Duane Grimes.

Plymouth trio – Ross Roberts (super lightweight), Ben Zacharkiw (lightweight) and Louis Aitken (super lightweight) complete the card.
