Jose Zepeda to fight replacement Ammeth Diaz on January 23

Zepeda returns to the city where he was born, the first show he stars in this year, promoted by Zanfer and which will be broadcast on Azteca 7, the House of Boxing.

Tickets for this evening are already on sale at the Royal Hotel Inn Mexicali, at a cost of 320 pesos on ring side and 110 general.

“Chon” Zepeda (23-1, 20 KO’s) and Diaz (32-12, 23 KO’s), have agreed to fight ten rounds in the lightweight division.

The experienced Diaz takes the place of Jose “Piston” Lopez, who suffered an injury that prevented him from taking part in the function.

Zepeda was unlucky in the second half of 2015 because in his fight for the world WBO Lightweight belt against Terry Flanagan in July he suffered an injured shoulder in the second round and could not continue.

That was the first defeat for the Zanfer prospect, who made a comeback in October but was cut in the first session against Jose Alfaro and the fight ended without a decision.

Diaz arrives at this match against Zepeda after having fought his most recent bout on July 11 last year, when he was stopped in three rounds by Walter Castillo.

In January 2012 he fought in Guadalajara, Jalisco against Miguel “Puppet” Vazquez for world lightweight title of the International Boxing Federation, falling by decision in 12 rounds.

In the co-feature, the Sinaloa Juan Carlos “southpaw” Sanchez will face Jhon Gemino, in another chapter in the rivalry between Mexico and the Philippines.
