Sheffield fighter Sam Sheedy’s Commonwealth title eliminator with Bristol’s Danny Butler has been postponed. The light-middleweights were due to battle at Rotherham’s Magna Centre on February 6, but a Sheedy injury means the enticing encounter will now be backdated to April.
Although the Sheedy versus Butler dust-up is off, the card is still headlined by a guaranteed explosive encounter between Sheffield’s Muheeb Fazeldin and South Africa’s Klaas Mboyane for the vacant Commonwealth bantamweight title. The stacked undercard also features Leeds’ Reece Cartwright, and the return of Waleed Din after the Steel City man suffered his first defeat last time out in October.
“I’m obviously disappointed that the Sheedy fight has been pulled, but it happens; we’re all human beings and people get injured,” explained promoter Dennis Hobson. “The Danny Butler camp have taken it very well because it’s just one of those things. We’re rescheduling for April 2, also at the Magna Centre, and it’s not like we’re pulling out because we don’t want the fight. Sam will be Ok in a few weeks, but we ran out of time for him to get ready for this upcoming show. I’m disappointed because it’s an absolutely cracking fight, but it just means we’ll be seeing it a few weeks later.
“Falzeldin against Mboyane is a terrific fight though to have as top of the bill and it’s meaningful because it’s for the Commonwealth title. Muheeb has become an exciting fighter, he’s got boxing ability but he’s started to whack now too and has stopped his last couple of opponents. He’s looking the part, is exciting to watch, and we all know about Mboyane after he stopped Ross Burkinshaw last year. Mboyane comes to scrap and is a terrific body-puncher, so it’s going to be a war if Muheeb doesn’t use his boxing. Given the opportunity though and Muheeb will try and get Mboyane out of there, so this fight can’t fail to be exciting.”
