Blackwell to defend British belt versus Eubank Jr on March 5

The 25 year-old from Trowbridge will be aiming to keep the UK strap outright with victory over world-rated Eubank after promoter Mick Hennessy put the finishing touches on a deal for a London battle.

“Pleased to announce the fight with Chris Eubank Jr is happening and will take place March 5th at Glow, Bluewater. (I’ll be) defending my British title,” said Blackwell.

“I’m going to be 110% for this fight and trust me, I’ll be walking away with that British for keeps,” he added.

Eubank Jr has passed up on an immediate WBA middleweight title shot against either Danny Jacobs or Gennady Golovkin to pursue his British title dream, which was a major cause in the end of his contract with Matchroom Boxing.

The Brighton man will now be hoping to secure his first big domestic honour before moving on to world level and a possible rematch with new WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders at some point in the future.

For Blackwell, the fight represents a big opportunity for the talented 160 pounder make a name for himself on the world stage and set up lucrative chances at European level and above.
